School recycling ideas that haven’t been done a million times before are hard to come by, but our little people are the next generation who will be able to quite literally, make a world of difference when it comes to recycling for a better future.
The great thing about children and class communities is that they are very competitive – and so are the parents and carers behind them – you only have to look at the grown-up races on sports day to see that!
Here at Kids Just Recycle, we have come up with one of the most impactful school recycling ideas and that is clothing and household textiles recycling. Positive school recycling ideas include signing up for a Kids Just Recycle Clothing Bin which is completely free of charge. We will design and brand your bin in your school colours complete with logo and any other signage you want. You can then get all classes – and other local schools – involved to collect as much unwanted clothing and household textiles as possible to help reduce clothing waste going into landfill even further – and the best bit is we will pay you per tonne collected so you can spend these additional funds on your school projects or improvements.
National initiatives to help school recycling ideas
Did you know that WRAP.org.uk (Waste Resources Action Programme) launched SCAP 2020 back in 2012 and has leading organisations from across clothing sector working together to reduce the environmental footprint of clothing?
Here are some amazing facts about this initiative:
- 88 organisations have signed up to the SCAP 2020 Commitment
- These organisations represent 65% of clothes sold in the UK by volume and 54% by sales value
SCAP supporters have pledged to:
- 15% reduction in carbon footprint
- 15% reduction in water footprint
- 15% reduction in waste to landfill
- 5% reduction in waste arising over product life span
By meeting the SCAP targets, we could see a saving of:
- Annual CO2 emissions of nearly 250,000 cars.
- Equivalent of more than 160,000 Olympic sized swimming pools in water saved
- Over 16,000 tonnes of waste saved
