Kids Fill The bag Recycling and Fundraising

Can your school kids “Fill The Bag”?

Take on a brand new challenge for your Christmas fundraiser

In recent years, there has been a significant shift in environmental awareness, with schools playing an essential role in educating the next generation on how to care for our planet. A major focus of this educational effort is on the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

These principles encourage pupils to consider the environmental impact of their consumption habits, teaching them how small actions can collectively lead to significant positive changes for the environment. Through various in-school initiatives across the UK, schools are not only introducing these concepts but are also creating hands-on opportunities for pupils to put them into practice.

One effective initiative that has gained momentum is the “Kids Fill The Bag” scheme by Kids Just Recycle. This initiative offers a simple yet impactful way for schools and communities to contribute to environmental sustainability while addressing another common challenge—limited funding. By participating in this scheme, schools can raise money simply by collecting donations of unwanted or “pre-loved” clothing, shoes, and household textiles, which many families have in abundance at home. This aligns perfectly with the environmental goal of reusing items rather than discarding them, as well as providing financial support to schools, which are often in need of additional funding for their initiatives. So, the big question is can your school kids “Fill The Bag”?

Here’s how the scheme works: pupils, their families, and community members gather 40 bin bags filled with these reusable items. For every tonne of reusable collected goods, the school receives £400, equivalent to a payment of 40p per kilo. This benefits everyone involved: families can clear out their wardrobes, schools can earn valuable funds, and pupils learn first-hand about the benefits of recycling. Additionally, if the market price for these goods increases, so does the amount of money earned per kilo, making it an even more attractive challenge!

This initiative provides pupils with a tangible way to engage with environmental issues, bridging the gap between classroom lessons on sustainability and real-world actions. By supporting this effort, schools not only raise essential funds but also foster a culture of environmental responsibility in their communities. This hands-on approach to recycling helps pupils develop a personal connection to the concept of sustainability, encouraging lifelong eco-conscious habits that can ripple through society, making a lasting impact on our planet.

Starting a “Kids Fill The Bag” challenge at your school is an exciting opportunity to combine environmental action with a practical way to raise funds for important school projects or facility upgrades. By participating in this challenge, your school community can come together, building teamwork and shared goals while making a positive environmental impact. This empowers pupils, teachers, and families to contribute to the school in a meaningful way—all while reinforcing the value of sustainability through textile recycling.

Every reusable filled bag translates into funds for the school, with the potential to earn £400 per tonne, or 40p per kilo for donations. For more information or to launch your challenge, simply call our Kids Fill The Bag team at 020 3903 9933 or check out our FREE resources page.
